Jesu, Joy Sheet Music, TAB, and MP3 for Guitar.
Believe it or not, the great classical composers did a fair amount of stealing of melodies from other composers. Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring by Bach is an example of that very phenomenon. Bach wrote the very familiar triplet figure melody we know as Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring. However, he ” borrowed” the choral part from a famous choral of the day. Today, Bach world have to be paying royalties on that! Though in the modern day Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring is often employed in weddings, this is
in no way related to the scope of Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, nor was it intended to be a wedding piece upon composition.
Song History - Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring is a movement from a cantata written by Johann Sebastian Bach during his time in Leipzig, Germany. The cantata, “Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben,” is officially the 147th out of the 300 cantatas that Bach wrote. A chorale melody is found inside of the cantata, as was the typical of the time of Bach’s composing. The Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring is Bach’s use of existing chorale melody with his wonderful and very famous obbligato part.
Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring versions produced and recored by Darren Curtis Skanson
From Angels, Guitars, and Joy - Solo classical guitar in standard tuning. This is the only solo version Darren has recorded of this piece, so it occupies a very unique place in his recorded work.
From Peace, Earth, and Guitars - Classical guitar with New Age synthesized choir. Most music described as of New Age genre is instrumental and electronic using keyboard synthesizers. Music labeled New Age often has a vision of a better future, expresses an appreciation of goodness, beauty, and a peaceful vision of a better world. When Darren created Peace, Earth, and Guitars, he did not realize that what he was marrying was the world of New age music and its charactaristics with classical guitar and its charactaristics of purity of sound and technical level of proficiency. It was a fresh new sound for classical guitar music and the tens of thounsands of copies of both recordings are proof of its universal appeal.
From A Light Classical Christmas - For solo classical guitar wih string quartet. This setting has the classical guitar as the central instrument but features string parts from the original score. In music for voice with instruments, ‘obbligato’ refers to a prominent instrumental part in an aria or other number. The archetype of the obbligato part is the vocal solo which, with a basso continuo, constitutes the accompaniment of vast numbers of late Baroque arias and recitatives. These string quartet parts are a compilation of all those original Bach parts.
From Duettos Cantabiles - For 2 classical guitars. Two classical guitars make this arrangement of the famous Bach work very unique. While one guitar plays the bulk of the original composition, the second guitar plays a descant weaving in and out of new lines and lines from the original score. This is a duet evolved from improvising over the existing track. Johann was a tremendous improviser so I do not think he would mind my improvisation. After playing it for Wayne my cellist, he convinced me to construct a more structured duet. I agreed, invited Wayne and Tom my producer to help me and the result is this duet that combine’s Bach’s lines, my improvisations, and new lines co-composed by Wayne, Tom, and myself. That co-operative effort highlights the special relationship that we 3 have and the resulting output that is, in my opinion, extrordinary!
